Summary:

A recent study of academic librarians in the United States found an increase in initiatives using library collections to address affordability and equitable access to required course materials. This webinar will highlight affordability initiatives centered in library collections and the eBook and textbook marketplace that supports them. The authors of the study, both librarians, will leverage survey and interview data to discuss this trend in academic libraries, articulate how collection strategies have developed to support it, identify issues librarians face in sustaining and growing these programs, and explain what librarians need from vendors and publishers to have a continued impact on affordability and equitable access. Wiley will discuss their perspective on the academic library marketplace for textbooks, describe their support for these initiatives, and engage with suggestions from study participants about how vendors and publishers can further support librarians in the affordability and equitable access space.
