Summary:
Artificial Intelligence literacy has quickly become a need for librarians amid the rise of generative AI. A framework for AI literacy helps ensure that librarians have support when teaching and assisting patrons with AI related topics.
In this session, the authors of the recent white paper, Building an AI Literacy Framework: Perspectives from Instruction Librarians and Current Information Literacy Tools, will go over the making of a framework for AI literacy and show real-life examples of how it can be applied. Through the application of this framework, librarians will know, understand, experiment, evaluate, and engage with AI.
Attendees will:
- Understand the key components of a framework for AI literacy.
- Learn how to implement the AI literacy framework.
- Develop strategies for incorporating AI literacy in library services.

Sandy Hervieux
Head of the Nahum Gelber Law LibraryMcGill UniversitySandy Hervieux is the Head of the Nahum Gelber Law Library at McGill University. She graduated with an MLIS from McGill University in 2014. Her research interests include reference services, information literacy, and the impact of artificial intelligence on user services.
Amanda Wheatley
Associate LibrarianMcGill UniversityAmanda Wheatley is an Associate Librarian at McGill University. She graduated with an MLIS from Western University in 2015. Her research interests include artificial intelligence, user experience, and entrepreneurship.
