TIE Preview of Upcoming Reads in Queer Studies, 2026

In recent years, LGBTQ+ rights and identities have been under increasing attack as more and more states seek to pass legislation that censors school curricula, bans or limits gender-affirming care, and forcibly outs LGBTQ+ students (see the ACLU’s anti-LGBTQ bill tracker for more). The situation has become so dire that the Human Rights Campaign even declared a national state of emergency for LGBTQ+ Americans in 2023. This Pride Month, some conservative states are digging in their heels further with calls to redesignate June “Nuclear Family Month” or “Fidelity Month.” TIE‘s latest “Preview of Upcoming Reads” in queer studies pushes back against such regressive efforts by foregrounding LGBTQ+ identities at a time when they face increasing erasure and minimization. Topics covered include radical lesbian histories, same-sex desire in different cultural contexts, and gender inequality, among many others. Hopefully, these titles not only contribute to expanding library holdings but also to discussions of broadening diversity and inclusion in our considerations of others.
