TIE Preview of Upcoming Reads in Poverty Studies, 2025

In TIE‘s second-ever iteration of forthcoming titles on poverty studies, readers will find new volumes that yield insights into the structural inequalities that hinder economic growth, social mobility, and human development. Although still a burgeoning field, poverty studies proffers an important, multi-disciplinary approach to considering the social and political consequences of poverty and inequality, as well as potential policy initiatives to address these problems, both domestically and globally. In addition to covering disparities in wealth distribution, books on this list also consider factors such as the privatization of welfare, the urban/rural divide, and housing inequality, all of which contribute to the systemic barriers faced by marginalized communities and are informed by the realities of poverty. Ultimately, understanding poverty is essential for crafting inclusive policies that promote equitable development and long-term prosperity.
