Barbie has established and reengineered libraries and information centers, working with the staff to create new information products and services that support and enable the activities of individuals, local businesses, organizations, and government agencies. 

Barbie is an established author and sought-after speaker on advanced research techniques and tools, the future of libraries, emerging information technologies, scholarly publishing, competitive intelligence, knowledge management, and transparent government through open information/data. Known for her column in ONLINE Searcher magazine, she is a frequent contributor to Information Today NewsBreaks and a book reviewer for Marketing Libraries Journal and Education Libraries. Barbie also serves as a peer reviewer for several library journals, including Evidence Based Library and Information Practice, Journal of Academic Librarianship, and Communications in Information Literacy

Barbie received her MSLS from Case Western Reserve University. She was a Fulbright Specialist in Slovenia (2004) and Lithuania (2007) and is an advisory board member of the World Computer Exchange (http://www.worldcomputerexchange.org). This not-for-profit organization bridges the digital divide among youth in developing nations. Current teaching assignments include Competitive Intelligence (CI) and Knowledge Management (KM) for the College of Communication and Information, University of Kentucky, and Library Juice Academy.
