Academic publishers have puzzled over what to do with generative AI. It offers many affordances—from language translation to plain language summaries—but also comes with many well-known drawbacks. This new installation of our podcast series with Anil Chandy, VP of Humanities, Social Sciences Books & Focus Projects at Springer Nature, discusses Springer Nature’s three models of AI use and the human oversight necessary to align them with publication standards.
As we move toward sector-wide experiments with “collaborating” with AI, this conversation offers us an important case study in how these collaborations might work and the sort of human oversight needed to ensure their quality.
