Call for Papers: “AI Literacy Across Disciplines”
Best practices for tailoring AI literacy instruction to disciplinary needs

In the past few years, academic librarians have theorized, codified, and problematized the concept of AI literacy. Equally important is that they have been teaching AI literacy to students and their communities. These sessions provide rigorous inquiry into the affordances and hazards of integrating AI into academic work. For many students, these conversations with librarians are their most direct and sustained engagement with institutional expectations surrounding AI use and form the basis of their understanding of academic integrity in the age of AI. These educational encounters are critical for maintaining the strength of academic institutions amid this period of technological turmoil.
LibTech Insights is issuing a call for papers for its upcoming series, “AI Literacy Across Disciplines.” The goal of this series is to use case studies of how academic librarians teach and adapt AI literacy to meet the specific needs of various academic disciplines. We understand that education is not a “one size fits all” solution, and we seek to gather best practices for engaging audiences ranging from English students to cell biology majors and every discipline in between.
Case studies will address:
- Assumptions and beliefs students hold about AI when entering the session
- Pedagogical strategies for tailoring AI literacy to disciplinary needs and expectations
- Activities, tools, and considerations that make up the backbone of instruction
Interested contributors should reach out to Daniel P. via email (dpfeiffer@ala.org) and identify the specific academic discipline the case study will focus on. Contributors will be given a case study template, which will require about 1,000–1,200 words to complete. Deadlines are flexible, but the aim is to have the series begin running in June.
