Curious about the ways humanities and social sciences (HSS) disciplines are thinking about AI? Last month’s series explored the intersection of AI, HSS, and libraries, highlighting how librarians and HSS scholars can shape AI regulation. In particular, our guest revealed the value of HSS approaches when it comes to the technology’s social and ethical implications. As for the benefits of AI, our speaker underlined applications for translation and summarization. Nonetheless, our guest stressed the importance of maintaining human oversight when employing AI in research and publishing. We hope you find the episodes opportune and thought-provoking.

June’s Series

In June, TAF was joined by Anil Chandy, VP of Humanities, Social Sciences Books & Focus Projects at Springer Nature. Taking a big picture look at HSS and AI, Chandy shared how perspectives have evolved since the advent of ChatGPT. Our speaker further explained that publishers draw on directives at nonprofits, government agencies, universities, and other publishers when developing AI guidelines.
