Last month’s series spotlighted Elysia French and Amanda White, coeditors of the recently published Ecologies in Practice: Environmentally Engaged Arts in Canada. Throughout the series, our guests chatted about the development of their title and environmental art more broadly. Elysia and Amanda also provided a primer on the interdisciplinary field of environmental humanities and explained their interest in artist-scholars. Walking through their book’s chapter sections—Interrupt, Witness, (Re)Place, and Reflect—our speakers detailed the more covert ways art can inspire action.

July’s Series

In July, TAF was joined by Elysia French, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Visual Arts at Brock University, and Amanda White, a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Sustainable Curating in the Department of Visual Art at Western University. Elysia and Amanda shared their backgrounds as an art historian and a practicing artist, explaining how they approached their coedited title Ecologies in Practice. They underlined key themes in the book and its focus on Canada, including the ways art can help people engage in critical thinking. Our guests also discussed environmental humanities, zeroed in on several of the book’s chapters, and underscored the importance of fostering community across disciplines. What’s Coming Up in August

Building on the success of Choice’s content vertical, LibTech Insights (LTI), this month’s series features editorial director and TAF host Bill Mickey in conversation with Daniel Pfeiffer, social sciences editor at Choice and the editor of LTI. In this two-part series, Bill and Daniel look back at LTI’s January 2023 launch and reflect on how the blog has since grown to encompass stories on a range of library technology topics including AI, user experience, and digital accessibility. Bill and Daniel also emphasize the need for librarians to have a seat at the table in the AI conversation and cover broader AI trends in librarianship and academic publishing.
